Juniper is used in porters, stouts and doppelbocks. Use 1/2 - 1 ounce in the boil. The flavor is very compatible with rye beer, and blends well with the citrus notes of ginger and orange peel, as well as licorice root and coriander. Crush berries with mortar and pestle before using, or place in thick plasticbag and crush with a mallet.
